02/06/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I always wondered why staff made a point to take Papo out for a walk a few times a day and said they loved him so much…I got my chance yesterday and totally fell for him. He is the cutest in his sweet and sour candy coat, with his almond shaped orange eyes, begging tongue and Fido’s flapping ears. I love his name too that fits so well his age. Papo is calm and easy going, likes treats that he takes very gently from my hand. He is oblivious to barking dogs in his ward and focuses on just being a friend and companion. He likes being petted and owns the sweetest look that makes me want to spend more time with him. I am looking forward to seeing Papo again and this time take him for a stroll around the park. A home sweet home and a loving master is all that he is wishing for and we are all hoping that soon enough, Papo’s dream will come true.

Summary: Papo displayed no concerning behaviors on his assessment. He was friendly and social throughout. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: Due to his rabies vaccine status, Papo is muzzled for this interaction. He greets a spayed female politely and will offer a few bounces to solicit play. He is easily distracted by his muzzle, however, and will only solicit briefly. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 1/14/17 During his initial medical exam, Papo was at first tense but then warmed and allowed all handling. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Papo so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. In the care center Papo is a calm and displays a medium energy level. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (Suitable for an adopter with a previous amount of dog experience) _X_No children: (Due to Papo’s bite history, we recommend a home without young children. The circumstances and severity of his bite are unknown. He has shown restraint in the care center and has not demonstrated any warnings of aggression.) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression (See known history; Reactivity towards other humans was reported upon entering shelter. Because this may present a challenge outside of the care centers, guidance from a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly advised to assess this behavior and modify/manage as needed.)
