05/27/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Not that looking amazing in a bow tie is one of the qualities you’re looking for in your new best friend, but still…Papii is the epitome of style and panache in his bowtie. Right? Gorgeous, fun and friendly, Papii is a delight, lovely on leash, likely housetrained, and his megawatt smile will light 1000 rooms! We had a great walk to the park, Papii noticing but not pulling towards other dogs, and when one was walking in front of us we stopped, and Papii sat, as we waited for the dog to move on. Such a good boy and so smart!!! Meaning ‘daddy’ in Spanish, and defined by the urban dictionary as a term of endearment, our Papii is someone you’ll want to spend time with. Fun, gentle, friendly and all about enjoying time with his person, our special guy is ready to leave us and move on with you.
05/28/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 5/25/17 Unaltered Male, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 5/28/17 Look: 1. Dog jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed. Tag: 2. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Mounts assessor’s leg at end. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest, dog sniffs toy. Summary: Papii was social throughout his assessment. He becme a bit overaroused during tag and mounted the assessor’s leg, but easily settled after. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Selective: These dogs can succeed with certain other dogs, but may be more selective or picky. They may dislike certain ‘types’ of dogs or styles of dog play so they may require extra supervision when interacting with other dogs. PLAYGROUP: Papii is polite and tolerant when interacting with dogs in the care center, though at times attempts to mount select female dogs. The behavior department recommends slow introductions to tolerant dogs. INTAKE BEHAVIOR: 5/25/17 During intake, Papii had a relaxed body, soft, wagging tail, and allowed all handling. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 5/25/17 During his initial medical exam, Papii had a wagging tail and was seeking attention. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Papii so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) Potential challenges: _X_Social hyper-arousal: During his assessment, Papii mounted the assessor’s leg when he became over aroused. He settled easily after. He may need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach him to remain calm in the presence of activity, rewarding calm behavior with treats. People should behave in a calm manner around him while working on training.
