I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 07/14/2016 from NY 11211, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY. I came in with Group/Litter #K16-065580.

Papi came into the shelter as a stray on 7/14/16, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. Behavior during Intake: Upon intake Papi was nervous and tense. He didn’t feel comfortable walking on a leash, but allowed all handling. During SAFER Papi came into the assessment room calm and friendly, Papi had a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor, he allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Papi was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment. Papi was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Papi appears to be sociable, and did not display any behavior concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is open for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, a bit distracted and attempts to exit. Squeeze 1: 1 Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:1 Dog gently pulls back his paw, licks hand. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-Dog:When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Papi greets the other dogs appropriately and wanders in the pen. He is tolerant of persistent muzzle licks from the dog he was surrendered with.
