SAFE 10/25/17
Hello, my name is Pander. My animal id is #9800. I am a female white dog at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 15-Oct-2017.
Pander 9800 is at risk for a respiratory infection (CIRDC). Behaviorally, she has been a bit fearful though social upon a slow approach; she has allowed all handling without issue. We recommend an experienced adopter prepared to work with this behavior.

Summary:: Pander came into the assessment room nervous and timid, she became friendly and social quickly when she warmed up towards the handlers.
Summary (1):: When off leash at the Care Center, Pander is nervous-displaying a tuck tail. She briefly interacts with calm dogs, but mostly keeps to herself. Pander was brought in as a stray so his behavior around other dogs is unknown. The Behavior Department recommends that Pander be placed in a home with resident dogs that are respectful and matches her calm demeanor. 10/16: Pander enters the yard with a tucked, nervous posture. She immediately avoids greeting the novel male dog and seeks attention from the handlers. She does tolerate a face to face sniff from the male but quickly moves away, again towards the handlers. 10/17-18: In a group of calm dogs, Pander displayed a tucked but wagging tail. She mostly keeps to herself while exploring the pens. When a sexually motivated male solicits attention, Pander offers him appropriate social signals-look away and lip licks- that she is uncomfortable. 10/19-20: Pander is slightly assertive with an older male dog. She listens to handler interruptions and explores the pens. She is used as a greeter- displaying a soft body.
Date of intake:: 10/15/2017
Summary:: fearful, timid becomes relaxed.
Date of initial:: 10/16/2017
Summary:: Very friendly, allows all handling
ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Pander so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. However, she is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: EXPERIENCE (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the behaviors outlined below)
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
Potential challenges: : Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: Fearful– The behavior department recommends allowing Pander to approach her potential new adopters at her own pace. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing/exposing Pander to new and unfamiliar situations.
