08/18/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/18/16 12:31 Paisley is a young adult female dog, possibly a Black Mouth Cur mix. She appears thin with ribs, hips, and vertebrae protruding, but has a swollen abdomen. She has a lot of scabs with blood and pus on her head and body. She was reportedly living outside near a highway for 3 weeks. She ran from her finders. She approached them for water. She lied down after about one hour and they walked backwards up to her. She allowed them to pet her and pick her up. They kept her in their backyard overnight. They report that she ate a lot of dry food. When they went outside, she approached them and sat next to them while they pet her. She walked with them to the car. Outside the shelter, she sat and wouldn’t walk with encouragement. Her finder picked her up and placed her on a flat bed. We used this to transport her into the shelter. She sat or lied down on the flat bed. She was tense but tolerant while I scanned her (-), collared her, pet her, removed her harness, and took pictures. She stood up on her flatbed and looked around. We took her to the hallway on the flatbed. She became more tense and began pacing on the flat bed. She walked off with me and walked slowly with me. I stooped down and she sat against me while I pet her. She was tense but tolerant during vaccines. She wouldn’t walk into the kennel room with me and was tense but tolerant while I carried her inside and set her in her kennel.
08/20/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: It’s easy to see the majesty that once was Paisley before she fell on hard times. Found by people who brought her into our care, they tell us that she was living near a highway for about 3 weeks, and while she initially ran from them, after a while approached them for water and food. Paisley is too thin, and was probably weak at first, needing to be carried inside. In her kennel she lies on her bed (not the ground), so she knows what a bed is for. She’s regal looking, gentle and sweet and comes forward as I open her door. Easy on the leash she sniffs everything in her path as she figures out this new place. Scared and confused, she’s nonetheless happy to softly take treats from my hand, poses sweetly for pictures, and settles between my legs for petting as I take some notes. We don’t know what happened to change her life and have her living on the street; we can only look forward to making sure this very, very sweet girl gets the best that life has to offer. Inside the building she sits down on the cool floor and rolls over for a belly rub and I can’t help but shed a tear for her gentle manner. Is your heart big enough to welcome this gentle girl who needs TLC, a soft bed, good food and lots and lots of love? I hope so as she deserves it.
08/21/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Paisley came to the care center as a stray so we have no history of her in a home. Upon intake, she was tense and would not walk but allowed all handling. For her relief walk, Paisley walked well on leash. Once in the assessment room she appeared nervous. She averted her eyes during Look, body tense, tail down. For Sensitivity, Paisley stood still and allowed handling, body tense. She was fearful for Tag, spinning away quickly on every pass, whaled eyed, body tense. .She did not pull back her paw on either Squeeze attempt. She displayed minimal interest in Toy, sniffing it. When greeting another dog on leash at the care center, Paisley approached slowly, tail down. The Behavior Team recommends Paisley be placed in an Experienced home with no young children as she is nervous and will need time to adjust to her surroundings. She will need a slow approach and slow introduction. She would benefit from an initially quiet home, where she will have time to acclimate to her new surroundings. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is stiff and fearful; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is down, body stiff, mouth closed. Tag: 3. Dog repeatedly turns quickly away when touched and repeatedly tries to exit. Dog is crouching, tail is down, mouth closed, body stiff. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Toy 1. Minimal interest. Dog sniffs toy. Dog to Dog: When greeting another dog on leash at the care center, Paisley approached slowly, tail down.
08/23/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Paisley is nervous and displays fearful body language upon approahch. When the greeter dog sniff sher face, she offers a defenisve growl and lip curl. Paisley arrived into our care as a stray, so there is no is no available history of previous interaction with other dogs. The behavior team feels that Paisley should be allowed time to acclimate to life outside the shelter environment as the only resident dog, before following up on her behavior around them.
