MOST RECENT MEDICAL INFORMATION AND WEIGHT
11/08/2016 Exam Type BEHAVIORPART2 – Medical Rating is 1 – NORMAL , Behavior Rating is EXPNOCHILD, Weight 25.2 LBS.
IN SHELTER BEHAVIOR: 11/13/16: It has been reported by several staff that due to Paco’s kennel presence he can no longer be housed in our public adoptions room. Paco will lip curl, growl, bark and lunge when his kennel is approached. The Enrichment Team has not seen any behavior concerns with Paco when he is outside during playgroup and remains social towards all handlers outside, however he can no longer be housed in adoptions due to safety concerns for both staff and the public. Placement should be sought as soon as possible for Paco. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience _X_No children (under 13) Potential challenges: _X_Basic manners/Poor impulse control (It is recommended that default behaviors such as “Leave it”, “Sit/Stay”, “Down” are reinforced to substitute frustration and teach him to control his impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward based training is recommended.) _X_Mouthiness/Poor bite inhibition (Decreasing the force of the mouth as well as the frequency of mouthing, in this order is recommended by using force-free, reward based training as well to reinforce a soft appropriate mouth and redirect hard inappropriate mouthing onto toys.) _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression (Reactivity towards other humans was noted by previous owner; lunging, growling, nipping. Because this appears to present a challenge outside of the care centers, guidance from a professional trainer/behaviorist is advised to assess the behavior and work with it as needed.) _X_On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration (See known history; Owner reports Paco has displayed a low threshold for dog/human reactivity and frustration on leash: hard pulling, hard barking, lunging, growling and at times has “nipped” without ever breaking skin. The owner also cites similar issues in home with strangers coming over; the behavior department recommends guidance from a professional trainer/behaviorist.)
