08/02/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Osirus came into the shelter as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unkown. Upon intake it was reported Osiris was relaxed and approached with a loose wiggly body, and allowed all handling. During SAFER Osirus came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, he had a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor, he allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Osirus was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment. Osirus was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Osirus appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is open for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. Dog-Dog:When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Osirus displays loose and wiggly body language as he interacts with the greeter dog. He displays bouncy body language but begins to bark back at the dog that barks at him. Update 8/3/16: It was reported to the Behavior Team that Osirus was being rope reactive when being leashed to leave his kennel and when he is returned. A Behavior staff member attempted to remove him from his kennel and he allowed the rope to slip over his head but turned and bit down onto the leash, tugging it into his kennel. He did trade for treats and release however we do not feel that he is a suitable candidate for the adoptions room due safety concerns. Update 8/6/16: Today Osirus became kennel reactive with the dog next to him. He redirected on the handler, softly biting him on his elbow. He did not break skin and was able to be placed into his kennel without further incident. Osirus is rapidly deteriorating within the Care Center and we recommend that he be placed as soon as possible for his well-being and for the safety of the staff.
08/02/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Osirus was surrendered as a stray so his past behavior around dogs is unknown. 8/2: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Osirus displays loose and wiggly body language as he interacts with the greeter dog. He displays bouncy body language but begins to bark back at the dog that barks at him. 8/4: Osirus greets displaying loose and wiggly body language. He is slightly sexually motivated but immediately listens to handler interruption and continues to solicit play. 8/5: Osirus greets the other dog displaying loose and wiggly body language. He engages in and solicits high energy play with a playful female. 8/6: Osirus is playful, engaging in high energy play with female dogs. He is introduced to a smaller male and continues to displays the same appropriate behavior. When being introduced to a larger male dog, Osirus begins to bark at him so they are not introduced.
