08/17/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: True story: I walked into the area in which Oscar is kenneled and heard two dogs having a conversation……one would soft bark, the other would respond and they really took turns in an animated conversation! So cute and I wouldn’t be surprised if they were talking about the upcoming election! One of those dogs was Oscar so I just had to meet him. He’s an adorable little puppy, animated, affectionate, bouncy and playful. He seems to be housetrained, and may even be curb trained as he went right to the edge to take care of his business! Of course, as a puppy he may need some reinforcement of his skills. He’s puppy bouncy on leash, ignores or wags his tail at other dogs we pass, and in his first group was a bit anxious and ignored the helper dog’s greeting. Oscar rocks his bow tie and posed perfectly for photos, and when it was time to cuddle he proved that he’s an expert cuddler as well as a brilliant conversationalist! In my lap with all fours, we kissed, cuddled and sat together watching and listening to some kids across the street joined in song. It was such a nice moment for us both. Rolling over for a belly rub, giving kisses and being on my lap, Oscar is a people dog ready to be the best friend ever. He’ll probably stay on the smallish side as his paws are small, but of course still has some growing to do. If you’re looking for a fun and loving companion with whom you can discuss world events, the weather, and which movie stars are getting married (or divorced), and who is going to win The Voice, than Oscar is the pup you want with you always. Ask to meet him today!
08/19/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Oscar pulls a bit on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up, mouthy (moderate). Oscar was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. Oscar was excitable grabbing at the leash, jumpy, mouthy (moderate) but playful while playing tag. He became mouthy during the squeeze item with a moderate pressure. Oscar took the toy away but had soft body language. The behavior department feels that he can go to an experience adopter who can follow up on this behavior. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. Follows at end of leash, body soft, jumpy but became mouthy at the end of the game Squeeze 1/2: 2. Dog gently places his open mouth over the Assessor’s hand with a moderate pressure. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Playgroup notes: Oscar arrived into our care as a stray, so there is no is no available history of previous interaction with other dogs. When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Oscar is anxious and ignores greeting, instead seeking exit from the yard. The behavior team feels that Oscar should require a pre adoption interaction and slow introductions before immediately placing him into an environment with unfamiliar dogs.
