Oscar
Hello, my name is Oscar. My animal id is #16491. I am a male tan dog at the Staten Island Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 19-Dec-2017.
Oscar is at risk due to behavior, New Hope Only determination. Oscar is a high energy dog and can sometimes be uncomfortable with handling. Oscar also has dermatitis, and the owner should be prepared to manage this condition.

Details on my behavior are…
Behavior Condition: 2. Blue
Date of intake:: 12/19/2017
Spay/Neuter status:: No
Means of surrender (length of time in previous home):: Stray
Date of assessment:: 12/21/2017
Toy:: 5. Dog snaps or bites the Assess-a-Hand.
Summary:: Oscar quickly escalated toward handler, barking and snapped, therefore up close tactile handling was skipped.
Date of initial:: 12/19/2017
Summary:: During his initial medical exam, Oscar was tense but tolerated handling.
ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Oscar so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. In the care center, he displays high energy and will benefit from daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: NEW HOPE ONLY
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner
Potential challenges: : On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration
Potential challenges comments:: Oscar will become agitated when tethered or on a tense leash. He was visibly more relaxed when in the yard without the restraint of a leash, but may low growl at unfamiliar people that approach the fence. It should be noted that Oscar has warmed up to select staff. When comfortable, he is social and playful.
