01/28/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Orian previously lived with 4 adults, children ages 2, 6, and 7 years old and a 2 month old puppy. The owner stated Orian is playful towards children but, the children are afraid of Orian so he spends majority of his time in the crate. The owner mentioned Orian lived with a 2 month old pit-bull puppy but Orian was fearful and will run away from the puppy and can be playful at the same time. The owner describes Orian as playful and shy. It was reported by the owner Orian is house trained, crate trained, has a medium activity level and well behaved when home alone in the yard. Due to the behavior demonstrated in the shelter the behavior department believes that Orian is not an appropriate candidate for SAFER at this time. At intake it was reported Orian was nervous and tense, he will growl with unfamiliar people. He allowed limited handling. During Orian medical exam he growled with his tail tucked and tried to snap at the handlers resisted all handling, a muzzle was needed for exam. In the kennel Orian can be seen growling, snarling, lunging and trying to bite when approaching his kennel. A SAFER assessment will not be conducted due to safety and stress level concerns. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a New Hope partner who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time.
01/27/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
The Behavior Department was unable to remove Orian from his kennel for playgroup due to his extreme fearfulness. He was tucked into the corner, shaking and avoiding eye contact. We feel that giving him 24 hours to acclimate to the shelter would be in his best interst. 1/28 update: Orian was curled up up in a ball, lip curling and growling. As the handler approaches his kennel he lunges and hard barks with his muzzle up against the bars. Due to this behavior, he was not able to be leashed for playgroup.
