A volunteer writes:
Oh Donna, oh Donna…I pet Donna and softly croon her namesake song in hopes it will comfort her but this scared little girl seems absolutely lost. To be a middle-aged pet and suddenly find yourself in the noisy Care Center surrounded by strangers and not sure which way is home…just devastating. Donna has clearly lived the life of a sheltered Princess, her lush coat glows with good health, her weight is just perfect and her worried eyes shine bright as two Onyx gems. She walks well on leash but not far, pulling away from the park (perhaps toward home?) then retreating back across the street, eager to return to the security of her den. Other dogs are politely acknowledged in the yard but right now she is simply focused on exploring the boundaries of her new world and trying to find some way back to the familiar life she once knew. Donna needs time to trust and I hope with our help (and that of her doggie companions) she’ll soon come out of her shell and reveal the sweet, loving pet I know is hiding within.
