12/13/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: An itty bitty pocket pittie!!! So tiny, so beautiful, so shy and sweet, Miss Oreo could easily be named chocolate chip for the sprinkling of chips scattered on her face and legs. Beyond adorable, Oreo sits to be leashed, gently steps out of her kennel and off we go. Her leash manners are lovely, and while the big bad streets of NYC can be overwhelming for any of us, with a bit of coaxing we go to the park. Posing for photos is easy, as Oreo doesn’t mind being tethered, sits when asked, makes soft eye contact, and gently enjoys treats. On the way back to the building, Oreo stepped up her pace, and off leash in the pen, hopped up on the bench to sit next to me and share some kisses. All about snuggles and love, she opens up a bit each day as she becomes more comfortable with her surroundings and the people who show her care. Oreo wags her tail at other dogs passing us, and comes back for more snuggling. When it was time to leash her again, she sat again (impressive!) and in we go. When I kiss this gentle peanut goodbye in her kennel I tell her the best is yet to come. I know it is.

ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (Suitable for an adopter with a previous amount of dog experience) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful (Though observed to be human-social, Oreo may need time to warm up to the handler as she initially presents as a fearful dog, avoiding contact, shying away from direct touch. We recommend allowing Oreo to interact at her own pace, force-free, rewarding based training is advised when introducing her to new/unfamiliar situations.)
