06/08/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Oreo previously lived with two adults and, one three year old child. The owner stated Oreo is fearful around the child. He will stay hidden when the child engages in play, and will growl and snap. Owner stated when Oreo is eating, has a treat or has a toy he will growl if anyone approaches. It was reported by the owner that Oreo will growl when bathed and snap, he does not like to be held. The owner describes Oreo as playful and affectionate; he has a medium activity level. At intake it was reported Oreo was growling and barking. He allowed handling with assistance from the owner. During SAFER Oreo came into the assessment room calm, and relaxed, he was not comfortable with the assessor. Oreo became stiff, and growled during the look item. Not all handling items were able to be conducted as Oreo became stiff and growled at the assessor on the Look item. He displayed no interest in the toy resource item during this portion of the assessment. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue that can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Look: 5. Dog freezes and growls. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-dog: According to Oreo’s previous owner, Oreo has no experience with dogs. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Oreo greets appropriately and wanders in the pen.
