01/30/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
01/30/16 15:09 Basic Information: Oreo is a 7yr old male Pit Bull that has no past or current medical issues that the owner is aware of. Social Life Personality: Oreo takes well to strangers and is always open to meeting new people. Upon introduction his body is loose and his tail is wagging. When interacting with humans (Adult/Children) Oreo interacts with them in a playful gentle manner. Oreo also lived with another dog (large) and according to the owner they got along just fine. The owner has never had a cat around for Oreo to interact with and they aren’t sure how he would react in the presence of one. Oreo has never bitten a person or another animal according to the owner. Behavior: Oreo doesn’t have any guarding issues when it comes to food, treats, and toys. These items can be given and taken away with no issues accoridng to the owner. Oreo takes well to grooming agents like recieving a bath and the brushing of his coat. The owner has nver tried to trim his nails and isn’t sure how he would respond to having this agent done. For a New Family to Know: Oreo is described to be friendly, affectionate, playful, and excitable with a medium activity level. When in the home Oreo is the type to follow you around seeking attention or be in the same room. Oreo enjoys all sorts of dog toys and will play with just about anything. According to the owner Oreo would do great in any type of home setting. Oreo is an indoor only dog that is house broken. Oreo was given both wet/dry food and the brand the owner gave was Purina Dog Chow. When left alone in the home Oreo is well behaved and this applies to him being left in the yard as well. Oreo knows quite a few commands like sit, come, down, and stay. He went for slow walks on a leash and this was done twice a day.
02/03/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: When I took Oreo out I was prepared to hold on tight to his leash considering he is such a big dog, but that wasn’t necessary at all. He is quite a gentleman he doesn’t pull, doesn’t jump and often looks back at me to make sure I’m still there. He was even more delightful (if that is even possible)while in the yard, he fetches the toy I threw for him and then laid in my lap for head scratches and cuddles. He knows how to sit and give paw. He is just about perfect!!! Oreo is a love bug through and through and would make a great addition to just about any family. If you are interested in giving Oreo his forever home please come to SIACC and meet him.
02/02/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Oreo came into our center along with another large dog citing housing issues. Behavior around cats is unknown. Owner reports Oreo is friendly upon meeting new people, body loose and tail wagging. It is reported he doesn’t have any issues if someone touches his Food, Toys, or Treats and is housebroken. He is described as friendly, affectionate, and playful. During his initial medical exam, Oreo was friendly and allowed all handling. Oreo pulled on leash while walking to the SAFER assessment area. He wasn’t fully comfortable with upclose handling and needed to be repositioned for tactile portions of assessment. Oreo pulled out of assessor’s hands on all three Look attempts, lip lick. He displayed high energy and movement in between Sensitivity attempts, tail wagging while backing away or leaning body away, not getting too close to assessor. He was unresponsive during Tag game, focused on other stimuli. Oreo moved his body away during paw Squeeze attempt, so remaining item was conducted using Flank. Oreo was equally uncomfortable with Flank, crouching down, high energy and movement in between attempts. He briefly engaged with Toy, but quickly lost interest. Oreo approached the helper dog at an appropriate pace, body relaxed. Due to his discomfort with handling, the Behavior Team feels Oreo would do best with an Experienced adopter that does not have children. Although friendly and sociable, Oreo becomes uncomfortable if there isn’t approximately 15 inches of separation between dog and assessor. He may do best with a slow introduction so he can become comfortable and approach his new family on his own timeframe. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high movement between attempts, tail wagging, backs away/leans body away. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game ,focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 3. Dog is soft in body and eye, and moves his legs/body so that the Assessor is unable to hold the paw. Flank squeeze 1/ 2: 3. Moves away, high movement, crouches at each squeeze. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, briefly engaged, quickly loses interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, lip neutral.
02/06/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Oreo is a very polite greeter and appears to be interested in interacting with other dogs, but does not engage in any play. He is tolerant of other dogs’ solicitations, though he often wanders the yard and solicits human attention. Due to his behavior in play group, the Behavior Department feels that he would be suitable for a home with dogs with a calm temperament or low energy players if a proper introduction is conducted. When off leash with other dogs, Oreo is a very polite greeter and appears to be interested in interacting with other dogs, but did not engage in any play. 2/9 update Oreo continues to be be polite when greeting male and female dogs. He is tolerant of mounting and does not offer a correction. 2/10 – 2/11 update Oreo continues to be tolerant of other dogs, he often wanders the yard and solicits human attention. 2/12 update Oreo continues to be easy going, he does not often engage in play but does interact politely. 2/13 update Oreo continues to be tolerant and explore the yard with the presence of another dog. 2/17 update: Oreo greets other dogs softly and is tolerant of a high energy dog who solicits play with body slams. He does eventually engage in chase play. 2/22 update: Oreo continues to greet softly and is tolerant of play solicitations but does not engage. He appears to not be feeling well today.
