A volunteer writes: I met Oreo this weekend, he was quite happy to see me with a leash in my hand. So I leashed him up and off we went, as soon as he took care of business he play bowed to me which was seriously adorable!!! He’s a puppy and all he wants to do is play!!!. We went for a fast paced walk (he does well on leash pulls a bit but responds to correction). We went by the stables and he was mesmerized by the horses and just sat and watched them whining a tiny bit. After our small adventure he let me hug and pet him and I sadly put him back in his kennel. If you are looking for a fun loving companion look no further Oreo is the one for you.
A shelter staff member writes: Oreo originally came to us as a stray in January -was adopted and returned because he did not get along with the Yorkie’s in the home. He is back once again because of a baby on the way and family member does not want dogs. He is a playful pup looking for his perfect home! Oreo should not go to a home with cats or small dogs because of rough play. He is great with the staff and volunteers!

The main reason for Oreo being brought back was due to her sister being pregnant and very afraid of dogs.
Oreo is a pit mix and he is about 9 months old and has been neutered.
Oreo was adopted from SIACC and has no health issues or injuries to the knowledge of the owner.
Two things the owner stated that she likes about Oreo is that he is loyal and playful.
Children: Oreo is relaxed, playful and respectful around children. He plays with them exuberantly and somewhat rough.
Around other dogs: Oreo is respectful, relaxed, playful, tolerant, EXCEPT when it comes to little dogs. He is aggressive towards them.
Around cats: Oreo does not like cats. He is aggressive with them.
Oreo is house trained and rarely if ever has accidents.
Oreo is kept mostly indoors and his activity level is high.
Oreo can be described as playful, confident, affectionate, anxious and friendly.
Oreo has no bite history according to the owner.
When someone moves his food bowl while he’s eating, he reacts in a friendly manner. The same goes for when his bone, rawhide, or treat is taken away, a toy or other object is taken away, when he is pushed/pulled off the furniture, when someone unfamiliar approaches the house or yard, and when someone unfamiliar approaches you or a family member.
When someone brushes his coat or he is restrained or held he isn’t bothered.
It is unknown how he would react when he is given a bath or when his feet are touched or nails are trimmed.
Oreo knows the command “sit.”
For exercise, Oreo likes slow walks on the leash 5x a day.
To play Oreo likes chase and wrestling and he likes to play with balls.
Oreo usually goes potty on the grass.
When home, Oreo tends to follow you around/be in the same room.
When alone in the house, he is well behaved.
When off leash, he keeps his distance and is hard to catch.
It is unknown how he reacts to storms/fireworks.
Oreo eats both wet and dry food and the brand provided was pedigree.
Oreo sleeps on owner’s bed head to head and his favorite treats are Lil Doggie Bones.

1/9/15 – SAFER:AVERAGE
Upon intake it was noted that Oreo was nervous, but became more relaxed with a softer approach. He allowed all handling and was easily collared by an admissions counselor. It was also noted by Oreos finder that while briefly in their care Oreo was very active with high energy and would destroy household items. During the SAFER Oreo was excited but very interested in interacting with handler- jumped up, licked hands and face. He was excited and a bit mouthy during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. He also had soft body language when following the assessor at the end of the leash during the tag interaction. Oreo did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl during the food test, and he was also easy to handle when chewing on toys and rawhides.
Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions.
Sensitivity: 2. Dog is active and focused on the Assessor and all other stimuli available. His body is soft, and panting, He displays high movements between attempts.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, and tail wags
Squeeze 1&2: 2. Dog gently places his open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure.
Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. He lifts his head when hand is pushed against his cheek.
Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy.
Rawhide: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the rawhide.
Dog-dog: Oreo sniffed dogs through the gate with a low tail wag and raised hackles. When off leash he greets both male and female dogs with a brief sniff and his body oriented to the side, then initiates play immediately with all dogs. Oreo also listens to corrections from other dogs.
3/8/15
On 3/7/2015 Oreo came to us as a returned adoption. The Adopter claims there was a “CONFLICT WITH OTHER 2 DOGS”. According to the owner/adopter Oreo lived with two adults and two teenagers, gets along with children and strangers, and has no bite history. The Assistant’s observations: friendly and pulls on leash to the assessment area. During the assessment, Oreo appeared calm and friendly; jumping up to lick the Assessors’ face. Oreo allowed the Assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items and accepted handling well. When pushed away by the assess-a-hand, Oreo lifted his head from the food bowl. No behavior issues; no aggression noted. When presented with the helper dog, Oreo was calm with a relaxed tail. The alleged “conflict with other dogs” behavior was not apparent, but must be considered. It is the recommendation of the Behavior department Oreo may be adopted by an Average owner who is fully aware of the former owner’s claims.
Helper: A1028691
Look: 1. Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted
Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body

Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw.
Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push him out.
