06/21/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Oreo came into our center after biting someone in the home that kicked the door down and frightened him. In the past he has also bitten when family members were fighting that became physical. Oreo walked nicely on leash for his relief walk. He was hesitant upon first seeing the assessor, but warmed up and allowed all handling. Oreo allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, relaxed, ears back. He stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, body soft. Oreo followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, cautious and alert, turned towards hand slowly on second pass. He did not pull his paw back on Squeeze item, lip lick on 2nd Squeeze attempt. When off leash, Oreo play bowed to a dog he saw in an adjoining pen. He appears to enjoy the company of other dogs. The Behavior Team feels Oreo would do best with an Experienced owner that does not have children. He may benefit from a slow approach/slow introduction so he can warm up at his own pace. Oreo would do best entering a calm, quiet, structured environment so he can relax and know what to expect. Owner reports Oreo has not had the best life and his home environment caused him stress. Oreo has displayed calm and quiet here at the center, tolerating all handling when relaxed and not stressed. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 2. Dog is fearful but unresponsive when touched. Approaches the Assessor when the game ends. Dog is likely crouching, may have long lip or lip lick. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog gently pulls back and whimpers. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog may smell and/or lick, then turns away. Dog-dog: Dog play bowed to another dog in an adjoining pen.
