03/13/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Energetic and playful, Oregano wagged his tail and gave me a big smile, hoping he could entice me to take him out. It worked! Leashed easily, we head outside where he uses the ‘facilities’ immediately, indicating he’s probably housetrained. His eyes shine, his tail wags, and he enjoys some treats as we make friends. In playgroup sessions, Oregano greets and briefly plays with his peers before going off to explore the pen on his own. The spice Oregano has lots of health benefits (Google it), so our Oregano is well named. He’s active and fun, so a person or family who loves activity is the perfect home for him. Just think of the health benefits when taking Oregano out for long walks or a hike. He’s ready to become your exercise partner — come meet him today
Another volunteer writes: This is how I envision Oregano’s DogMatch.com ad would read: I’m single, handsome, playful, fun, and with the right person snuggly and affectionate. I love getting an under the chin scratch and will roll over for belly rubs when I’m in the mood. I can sometimes be a bit mouthy and jumpy when I get excited so need someone to help me with that but I love to learn new things so will happily learn everything you need me to learn using positive reinforcement training. I love toys so a full toy box is a plus! I love playing with other dogs and play hard so would love to meet the right doggie and his/her person for a lifetime of play and love. I’m ready to settle down and begin my happily ever after so let’s make a match!
03/10/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Oregano pulls a bit on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up, Mouthy (moderate). He was overexcited during handling, jumping up, mouthy and was hard to position, but showed no aggression. Oregano did a lot of jumping up, body checking and mouth the assessor while playing tag. He was not interest in toys. Oregano appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. The behavior department feels that he can go to an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 3. Dog responds with his tail high, ears forward, mouth likely closed for at least half of the assessment item, body stiff and body checks the Assessor. Dog is often focused on other stimuli in the room. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. No interest. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Oregano briefly solicits play with intent to mount.
03/09/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Oregano has briefly solicited play with intent to mount on one occasion, but has mostly offered only brief greetings during following interactions. Oregano arrived into our care with no additional information from his previous household, so in-home behaviors with dogs are unknown. The behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction for Oregano before placement into a home with another dog. When off leash with other dogs, Oregano briefly solicits play with intent to mount. 3/10 update: Oregano briefly greets then roams the pen. 3/11 update: Oregano greets the helper dog briefly before going off to sniff the yard. 3/23 update: Oregano is a bit sexually motivated and continues attempting to mount, but engages in bouts of play. 3/24 update: Oregano is sexually motivated but will engage in pushy play when solicited. 3/29 update: Oregano continues to exhibit these behaviors when off leash with other dogs. 3/30 update: Oregano engages in running, jumping play. 3/31 update: Oregano engages in running chase play with males and females. 4/1 update: Oregano continues to exhibit these behaviors when off leash with other dogs. 4/2 update: Oregano engages in rough play with males and females. He becomes uncomfortable with a larger male and will persistently mouth him with a stiff body. 4/5 update: Oregano engages in rough, mouthy play with males and females. He becomes more pushy throughout the duration of play. 4/6 update: Oregano continues to display these behaviors. 4/7 update: Oregano engages in rough, mouthy play with a male. He is tolerant when mounted. 4/9 update: Oregano continues to engage in rough play, but he does offer correction when the male dog becomes too mouthy where he begins to grab his neck and not let go. 4/10 update: Oregano engages in rough, mouthy play.
