Orchid came into the Care Center as a stray; past behaviors in a home are unknown. Behavior during intake: Orchid was very excited and playful. During SAFER Orchid walked into the assessment room calm and relaxed she had a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor, she allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Orchid was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment. Orchid was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Orchid appears to be sociable, and did not display any behavior concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is open for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1/2:1 Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. Playgroup: Orchid engages and solicits gentle play in a group of male and female dogs. She will offer appropriate correction when a male attempts to mount her.

Orchid was brought in as a stray so her past behavior around other dogs is unknown. When off leash at the Care Center, Orchid engages in and solicits gentle play with male and female dogs. She will offer appropriate correction when a male attempts to mount her. She may become anxious and attempt to leave the pen. The Behavior Department recommends that Orchid be placed in a home with dogs that match her gentle play style. 8/29: Orchid greets with a loose, wiggly body and solicits play with soft bounces. 8/30: Orchid greets the other dog with muzzle licks, before anxiously pacing the pen while panting. 9/1-4: Orchid engages in gentle play with a playful male dog. 9/3: Orchid engages and solicits gentle play in a group of male and female dogs. She will offer appropriate correction when a male attempts to mount her.
