Onyx had to have her face covered with a blanket in order to allow being picked up.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: NEW HOPE ONLY
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:: No children: Due to Onyx’s previous owner reporting that she avoids children, as well as how uncomfortable she is currently with touch and novel stimuli, we feel that an adult-only home would be most beneficial at this time. Place with a New Hope partner: Due to the warning and distance-increasing behaviors shown in the care center, as well as Onyx’s history of being fearful with new people, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide force free behavior modification.
Potential challenges: : Fearful/potential for defensive aggression
Potential challenges comments:: Fearful/potential for defensive aggression; Onyx’s previous owner reported that she is fearful of new people and barks at them. In the care center, she has been fearful, at times growling and snapping. It is important to always go slow and give Onyx the option to walk away from any social interaction. Onyx should never be forced to approach anything that she is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Onyx’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Mrs Pancake would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to her new surroundings.
