A volunteer writes

I would never skip a Pekinese when I see one at the care center. I know they can be a little temperamental but we have always been a match. Oliver(what a pretty name) is no exception but he is a Pek with a twist… He did growl at some staff here and there but I know why… Oliver is a middle aged guy with a disability. He waddled like a duck(probably a hip or a knee problem) and his vision is quite poor. I love his big button eyes, though. Oliver was brought by a Good Samaritan who was feeding him in his backyard. After looking for an owner he never found, the finder brought Oliver to us. Oliver barked at me at first. I sweet talked him and he lodged himself like a dream in my arms. Although his back is almost naked, the rest of his latte coat is plush , silky and clean. Oliver loves treats. He smells them more than he sees them. He does bump into things but is a great trooper and accelerates his speed when I make encouraging sounds. He looks them like a little torpedo. Oliver enjoys caresses and the arms and purrs when I scratch him under the chin. I really love this little guy and I hope that you will too. Being physically challenged, Oliver will need a caring and understanding owner or foster. He is all worth your love and is waiting patiently to meet you soon.

If you are local to the Tri-State, New England, and the general Northeast United States area, and you are SERIOUS about adopting or fostering one of the animals at NYC ACC, please read our MUST READ section for instructions, or email helpdogs@urgentpodr.org. Our experienced volunteers will do their best to guide you through the process.

* We highly discourage everyone from trusting strangers that send them Facebook messages, offering help, for it has ended in truly tragic events.*
