Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper dog: A1088484 Ocho previously lived with adults and has been around children ages 5 and 10 years old. The owner stated Ocho will display whale eyes, tuck his tail in between his legs and avoid strangers. Ocho enjoys being around the children but may play too rough and can knock down accidentally. The owner mentioned Ocho does not do well with other dogs when he is on his walks, he would growl, hackles raised, lunges and attempts to bite. It was reported by the owner Ocho will snap back at the person walking him if they pull on the leash or restrain him. The owner describes ocho as playful, independent and sometimes fearful. According to the owner Ocho is house trained, has a high activity level and well behaved when home alone. At intake it was reported Ocho was tense and attempts to hide, he allowed minimal handling. During SAFER Ocho came into the room nervous and tense, not all handling items were able to be conducted as Ocho bared his teeth at the assessor when attempting to pet him on his back. He displayed no interest in the toy resource item during this portion of the assessment. When on leash for a dog interaction with another dog on leash Ocho seemed to be fearful with his tail tucked. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-dog: 3. Dog approaches the helper dog with his tail tucked, head low and whale eyes.
