01/21/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
01/21/16 11:11 Ocean A1063379 is an appox 2 year old AMPT. He is being surrendered because his owner passed away. Behavior during intake Ocean was very friendly and allowed all handling-scanning(-), collaring, and photographs. He gently took treats from our hands and sat when asked. He wagged his tail and licked our hands. He has a loose wiggly body and an open mouth. He did not resist when being transferred into a kennel.
01/24/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: “If you’re handsome and you know it wag your tail – wag, wag…” OK – a little poetic license with a children’s song, but Ocean is one handsome and friendly boy. His owner passed away so he was brought to our care and while he looks worried and serious, and has every reason to be, he’s friendly, snuggly and playful. Even during the intake process he had a “soft, wiggly body”. Gorgeously taken care of, he seems to be housetrained, and after some initial bouncy enthusiasm on leash settles into a nice walk. His tail wags as we walk, and when we stopped to take some pictures in the park he didn’t mind being tethered, sat for a treat before I asked and takes them gently. Ocean picked up a stick as we walked and carried it back to the shelter, dropping it before we went inside. So cute! Off leash in the back he found a toy to play with and was happiest sharing it on my lap while I cuddled him. Leaning in for petting or giving me a stand up hug and kiss, Ocean is a gentle sweetheart and I fell in love. In his first group play he engages when solicited by the helper dog. Ocean is doing a fabulous job in a situation we would likely fall apart in…he lost his person and then his home, thrust into a difficult new environment. He’s an awesome dog, clearly a beloved companion and deserves to have that status again. He’s waiting to meet you and ready to wag his way home.
01/23/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Ocean pulls hard on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up. He was overexcited during handling, jumping up, and was hard to position, but showed no aggression. He engages in play, body is loose and wiggly and grab at the leash for two second and let it go. He took the toy with a soft body language. Ocean is an active dog he need a significant amount of exercise and mental stimulation. The behavior department feels that he can go to an experienced home. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Grab at the leash with a soft body and was not difficult to distract him. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs Ocean is sexually motivated but will engage in play when solicited by the helper dog.
01/22/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Ocean will engage in bouncy play with a female but with the intent to mount her (he is currently unaltered). He has not yet been introduced to a male off leash, but through a barrier in the yard he will stiffen and bark at him. He entered the care center as a stray, so any in-home behaviors with other dogs are unknown. Based on these observations the behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction and to not place him into a home with a male dog. When off leash with other dogs Ocean is sexually motivated but will engage in play when solicited by the helper dog. 1/26: Ocean displays a bit of sexually motivated behavior (sniffs, postures to mount but doesn’t fully attempt), eventually solicits play but becomes a bit pushy. 1/27 update: Ocean engages in brief play but quickly becomes overwhelmed when solicited by an exuberantly playful female dog. 1/28 update: Ocean, again, is sexually motivated. He stiffens and barks at a male dog that initiates barking.
