01/13/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I knew instantly that Oatmeal was my kind of girl…and I do not like oatmeal. I love her opinionated square face, her expressive eyes, her strong features and her matriarchal attitude that reminds me of my authoritarian great grand aunt Louise…a powerful blend of feelings wrapped in a gorgeous and silvery package. At the age of six, Oatmeal looks healthy and splendid despite the fact that she has known a few litters. She carries herself proudly. No relinquishment or abandonment will get her down. She knows she is worth the love of a human regardless of whatever happened to her. I so admire her. Oatmeal does not care for her kennel and she will shake her door at times to let you know that she wants out. She is leashed easily. Oh, I so love her eyes. She pulls on the leash, does her business at once, poses skeptically for pictures and will sit on command and for treats. She is quite dainty taking them from my hand. Oatmeal comes on the bench upon request, not before pondering if she really should do so. She responds to my caresses by a lick on my face at first, then settles on my lap, her head against my chest. I earned her trust and maybe her love. She might look–and probably is–a bit of a tough gal, but she is a little bit stressed by this change in her life, snoozes a lot when she seeks comfort in my arms and wags her tail a lot. Oatmeal is not all serious. She does enjoy herself in playgroups with her peers. She also knows how to stop when another dog does not want to play anymore. I am looking forward to spend time with Oatmeal again, but I would not be sad if I learned that she left us to start a new chapter in her life with a loving owner or family. Oetmeal is at the Manhattan Care Center, hoping to soon be your forever and loyal best friend.
