A volunteer writes: Oakly is happy go lucky puppy who enjoys playing with other dogs and giving and receiving affection from humans. At 10 months old he is young, healthy and active. Oakly is a lot of fun to be with; he wants to learn and explore his new surroundings always keeping a watchful eye on his handler and comes back often just to give kisses. Oakly did very well on his behavior evaluation and is playgroup rock star, he is quickly becoming a volunteer and staff favorite. If you are interested in adopting Oakly please come to SIACC and meet him.
SAFER
Oakly was brought into our center after a member of the public found him as a stray. Upon intake, he was loose and friendly, tail wagging at anyone that passed by, he allowed all handling and petting.
Oakly pulled on leash for his relief walk. He displayed high energy and movement upon entering SAFER assessment area. Oakly pulled out of assessor’s hands at all three Look attempts. He leaned into assessor during Sensitivity item, ears back, mouth closed. Oakly grabbed the leash and would not release it during Tag game, trying to play tug. He was unresponsive to each pass and focused on other stimuli. Oakly quickly pulled his paw back on first Squeeze attempt, gently pulled it back second attempt. He showed no interest in Toy. Oakly whined while approaching helper dog, ears back, tail wagging. The Behavior Team feels Oakly would do well in an Average home, but will require daily mental and physical stimulation to positively direct his high energy and enthusiasm, in the forms of walks, runs, exercise, play. Oakly would also benefit from obedience classes to learn leash manners pertaining to walking appropriately without pulling and not grabbing the leash when aroused from play.
