America’s national tree now comes in dog form and what a classic he is! Representative of strength and beauty, the mighty Oak has always been a crowd-pleaser and with his hunky good looks, affectionate heart and gentle nature, this beautiful cuddlebug is no exception. Oak’s always on the move, sniffing here and looking there, keen to explore and make new doggie or human friends (AKA treat dispensers) and even occasionally half chasing, half ignoring a thrown tennis ball. He’s alert but chill, excited to head off for a walk yet equally happy to hop his front paws into my lap for a snuggle and make-out session and his manners are pretty top-notch too. Come, sit and stay must have been covered by his former owner as he works them like a pro–though always preferring to sit as close as possible for optimal treat removal!–and he seems to be very house trained too, taking care of business quickly once we hit the street. He does pull a bit so may need a harness and a refresher course in leash etiquette but when weighed against all his other charms, it’s hardly a deal breaker. Oak has the silkiest coat, the shiniest eyes and juuuust the right amount of extra fat to make a good body massage as much a treat to give as he thinks it is to receive and his super sociable nature, especially with other dogs, mean he’s be a great fit for almost any home. There’s an old proverb that says ‘storms make Oaks take root’ and our wonderful Oak would love to take the rough hand he’s been dealt and turn it into the kind of deep, loyal family roots he was always meant to have. Another volunteer writes:  Oak has that certain something, that ‘it’ factor that makes him stand out in a crowd, and you feel that you’re in the presence of someone special.  He’s breathtakingly gorgeous in his gleaming black coat, his tail wags, he’s friendly, affectionate, playful and well behaved.   And, to watch him romp with other dogs in play group is like watching a well choreographed ballet!  He’s an awesome dog who has it all except a home, and that’s where you come in.   Ask to meet him today!
