Hello, my name is Nyla. My animal id is #16454. I am a desexed female brown dog at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 5 years 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 19-Dec-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- landlord won’t allow.
Nyla is at risk due to being diagnosed with Canine Upper Respiratory Disease Complex and will likely require home rest and a series of antibiotics for up to 14 days. This is a contagious illness to other dogs.

Hx: Scheduled for surgery at Glendale on 12/23/17 S/O: Dog is BARH. BCS 7-8/9. EENT – no abnormal ocular or nasal discharge; no sneezing or coughing noted during interaction. Heart/lungs auscult wnl. A: Acceptable candidate for elective sx P: Okay for surgery at Glendale tomorrow. NPO tonight.
CIRDC diagnosed on rounds S/O: BAR. Very active, attention seeking. Appetite decreased. EENT: Eyes clear, mild mucoid nasal discharge HL: Coughing, Normal RR/RE INTEG: Full healthy coat MS: Ambulatory x 4 UG: Spayed A: CIRDC P: Rec doxycycline 400mg PO q24 x 14 days. Continue to monitor while at BACC. Excellent prognosis

During intake, Nyla walked up to the counselor with a loose and wiggly body. She started to lick counselor’s hand and wiggled until counselor started to pet her. She sat by the counselor during the intake and allowed all handling.

Basic Information:: Nyla is a 5 year old brown and white large mixed breed. Her owner is surrendering her to the center due to landlord issues. The owner has had her for 5 years.

How is this dog around strangers?: Nyla is very friendly and will wiggle her way to strangers and lick them for attention.
How is this dog around children?: Nyla lived with a 3 and 7 year old and loves to play with them and tolerants their handling and noise.
How is this dog around other dogs?: Nyla does not live with a dog so her behavior is unknown.
How is this dog around cats?: Nyla tends to try and chase cats she sees while on her walks. She does not live with a cat.
Resource guarding:: Nyla has displayed no resource guarding according to her owner.
Bite history:: Nyla has not bitten a person or another animal.
Housetrained:: Yes
Energy level/descriptors:: high.

Medical Notes: Nyla, at times, does get dry skin that clears up with medicated shampoo.
For a New Family to Know: Nyla is described as a friendly, affectionate, playful, and excitable dog. She loves to play with her family and sleep. She enjoys kongs and rope toys. She was kept indoors only. She was fed Pedrigree dry food and loves any type of human food. She is house trained. She knows how to sit, come, and stay. She enjoys brisk walks and running/jogging. SHe pull very hard on leash. When off leash, she tends to wander off but comes when called.

Look:: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, ears are back, tail is down, relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity:: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth.
Tag:: 1. Dog follows at the end of the leash, body soft.
Paw squeeze 1:: 1. Dog gently pulls back his/her paw.
Paw squeeze 2:: 1. Dog gently pulls back his/her paw.
Toy:: 1. No interest.
Summary:: Nyla came into the room loose and wiggly, she was friendly and social towards the handlers.
Summary (1):: According to Nyla’s previous owner, Nyla did not socialize with other dogs while in their care. 12/20: When off leash at the Care Center, Nyla displays a nervous posture- low head and body. She quickly spins around when the male helper dog attempts to sniff her rear and eventually gives him a correction when he is persistent. She briefly sniffs him when he walks away. For the rest of her session, she explores the area, mostly keeping to herself. 12/21: Nyla is assertive with a calm male dog. She follows him around the pens leaning on him and standing tall. she tenses a bit when he sniffs her, but relaxes after he walks away.
