01/14/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Who does not crave for a comforting cup of hot cocoa in the cold winter weather? Here is our lovely Nutmeg for you… a delicious chocolate young lady who is ready to jump into your life and make it as sweet as she looks. Nutmeg was found as a stray. The only flaw I see in her is her luxated patella that maybe her owners did not want to take care of. Although relatively well nourished (she would have more meat around the bones in my house…) and healthy, I gather that she has not had the cushiest existence. Nutmeg is a little timid but opens up quickly to people and other dogs. She gives paw and hops on the lap for caresses, hugs and kisses. She is a real snuggler. She seems to like other dogs, big and small but never had a chance at playgroup because of her injury. Nutmeg is so pretty and warm looking. Her coat is soft, rich brown and her eyes, dark amber never stop searching for mine. Nutmeg keeps most often her right hind up but is a great trooper and walks nicely. She relieves herself on the way. She sits beautifully on command, takes treats delicately from my hand and wags gently her tail non stop. She does seem to have an eye for the pigeons, and the tennis balls have her attention too. I know she would love to run and jump, and gave me many hints she wanted to do so but I had to reason with her… Nutmeg will need veterinary care. I do hope that it will not hamper you considering her as a forever best friend or a foster. Nutmeg aced her behavioral evaluation and is worth all the efforts one may want to put into her. Nutmeg is waiting at the Manhattan Care Center, dreaming… of you and her new life.
01/13/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Nutmeg walks calmly on leash. She was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, low wag. Nutmeg was calm and relaxed during handling. She was calm and relaxed when playing tag with assessor but she grab at the leash at the end of the game very soft and was very easy to distract her. She was not interested in toys. Nutmeg did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that she can go to an Average home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Nutmeg has been unable to enter play group due to her medical status. However, it has been observed that when greeting other dogs through a barrier (fence), Nutmeg has displayed a soft body, wagging tail, and has on one occasion offered brief bows to the dogs on the other side.
