06/03/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
06/03/16 10:23hrs Noki is described as friendly, obedient, inquistive and reserved. He interacted with adults only while with his finder. He allowed petting. Noki would remain quiet and calm when he noticed other dogs outside. He would attempt to approach them and sniff. BEHAVIOR Noki would spend time in the same room as his finder. He would allow his finder to approach him and touch him while he is eating. He would eat only if the food was placed in front of him. He wouldn’t climb onto furniture unless he was instructed to. Noki barked only once and that was when he was going outside for his walk. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Noki responds to the commands “sit, lay down, paw, and roll over” He was fed Ceasers wet food. His finder is unsure if he is housetrained. He did urinate in the home but would only defecate outside. Noki had attempted to sleep in bed with his finder but would sleep on the floor near the bed when instructed. DURING INTAKE He would allow the Admissions Counselor to approach him and pet him but would move his head away. He would low growl while being petted. He accepted treats softly and would respond to all commands given to him. After further time spent in Admissions, he would begin to wag his tail when spoken to. He was collared, scanned for a microchip(neagtive) and photographed.
06/06/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Noki got a lot of compliments on our walk. Indeed, he shines like a black diamond in the sun. Noki is a handsome young knight, trim, smartly dressed and proud looking. He always seems to pose when I take pictures of him which makes my job easy. Close ups, profiles, sitting position….Noki will comply…He is a bit aloof, though and acts a little like the new kid on the block. I think it is mostly a facade to keep afloat amidst the drastic changes that occurred in his life…His abandonment and arrival at the care center. As our encounter progresses, with the help of roast beef, Noki softens, puts on a sincere big smile and starts to wag his tail profusely. He comes when I call him and bends his head for caresses. He sits for treats, dances for them and even takes a few steps on his hinds. He is quite a sight, a real black beauty, healthy, energetic while collected and attuned to his caretaker. Noki walks well on the leash, does his business with some marking and pulls toward other dogs. Noki is quite a catch, a very medium size young and gorgeous lad who would love to be your forever and loyal best friend. Noki is at the Manhattan Care Center waiting for your coming…
06/06/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Noki came into our center after a member of the public found him as a stray, kept him overnight. Finder stated Noki knows the cues sit, lay down, paw, and roll over. Finder states Noki wasn’t bothered if his food was touched while he was eating. During intake, Noki allowed counselor to approach but moved head away and low growled while being pet. Noki was calm upon entering SAFER assessment room, but began barking to solicit attention. He allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands for Look item, low vocalization. Noki growled during Sensitivity item, but did not escalate and maintained close proximity to the assessor. However, due to his discomfort and clear warning, the remaining tactile items were skipped. He engaged with Toy, but relinquished it easily. When off leash with other dogs, Noki approaches and greets with a slightly tense body and high tail. Due to the warning behaviors seen during intake and during the SAFER aggression assessment, we recommend that Noki be placed with a New Hope partner who can re-evaluate his behavior in a stable home environment, help him to gain comfort and confidence, and who can provide any positive reinforcement-based behavior modification needed. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, low vocalization. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 5. Dog growls Toy 1: 1. Dog plays, will relinquish toy to you. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Noki approaches and greets with a slightly tense body and high tail
