Noel
Hello, my name is Noel. My animal id is #16835. I am a female tan dog at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years 2 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 24-Dec-2017.
Noel is at risk due to being diagnosed with Canine Upper Respiratory Disease Complex and will likely require home rest and a series of antibiotics for up to 14 days. This is a contagious illness to other dogs. Noel has been nervous in the care center but allows handling.
Let’s get to know each other a bit more…
Hey everyone, my name is Noel. I want you guys to get to know me, so here is my ‘tell all summary’. I love treats! The crunchier the better. I will stand up and show my fit belly if you have a few liver treats in your hand. I have a shy personality. I get along with people who are patience with me. I would rather be alone with you then share your attention with another dog. I mean I can work around it, but I who doesn’t like getting spoil. I need time, love, treats, and space. Did I tell you I am a bit of a diva? It is best if we work around my schedule. Come to Brooklyn Care Center, and let’s make this happen.

For the remainder of her session, Noel keeps to herself while exploring the pens. 12/28: In a group of calm but fearful male and female dogs, Noel briefly greets before keeping to herself. She quickly moves away from the other dogs when they attempt to sniff her, and offers appropriate warnings (lip curls and air snaps) when the other dogs are persistent.
Date of intake:: 12/24/2017
Summary:: Unknown
Date of initial:: 12/24/2017
Summary:: Noel was very fearful – licks lips, whale eyes, keeps tail tucked between legs
ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Noel so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. Noel displayed low energy and movement throughout assessment, and will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: EXPERIENCE (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the behaviors outlined below)
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
Recommendations:: No young children (under 5)
Recommendations comments:: No young children (under 5): Due to the behavior seen in the care center, we feel that Noel may be intimidated by young children. She needs a slow approach and time to warm up. She should never be forced to interact with new people, and should be allowed to greet and initiate an interaction at her own pace.
Potential challenges: : Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: Fearful: The behavior department recommends allowing Noel to approach her potential new adopters at her own pace. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing/exposing Noel to new and unfamiliar situations.
