Noah
Hello, my name is Noah. My animal id is #17568. I am a desexed male tan dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 4 years old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 03-Jan-2018.
Noah is at risk for behavioral reasons. Noah has a bite history, and whilst in the shelter has displayed a tendency to lunge and growl when approached, making him very difficult to handle in the shelter. Medically, Noah is recovering from a superficial wound , but otherwise presents as a healthy dog.
My medical notes are…
Weight: 66.6 lbs

Summary:: Due to Noah’s past bite history as well as lunging and growling at handlers that approach him, we feel that he is not a safe candidate for a handling assessment at this time.
Date of initial:: 1/3/2018
Summary:: Noah came in tranquilized and growled when the dart was removed.
ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Noah so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. In the care center, he displays a medium level of activity.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: NEW HOPE ONLY
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:: No children: Due to Noah’s bite history, we recommend an adult only home. Place with a New Hope partner: Due to Noah’s bite history, as well as the potential for defensive aggression he has displayed, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.
Potential challenges: : Fearful/potential for defensive aggression
Potential challenges comments:: Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Noah bit a care center employee during a previous stay at the care center and he has lunged and growled at people who approach him. Guidance from a professional trainer/behaviorist is recommended to assess behavior after decompression in a new home environment. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing or exposing Noah to new and unfamiliar situations.
