I am a male br brindle and white boxer and cane corso mix. The shelter thinks I am about 10 YEARS old.
I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 04/24/2016 from NY 10461, owner surrender reason stated was PERS PROB.

04/24/16 16:22 BASIC INFO Niko A1071352 is a 10 year old Cane Corso Mix. He was purchased from a breeder 10 years ago. The owner cannot keep because they have personal problems. Niko does not have any health concerns. SOCIALIZATION Around strangers, Niko is shy and has to warm up to you. He plays gentle with adults. He did not live with children, but according to his owner, he is friendly with kids. Niko lived with a small dog and a cat. He plays gentle with dogs. Niko has never bitten anyone. BEHAVIOR Niko is not bothered by fireworks or loud noises. Niko is not bothered if you touch his food bowl, or water bowl. he dioes pull back if you try to take away his toy. If an unafamiliar approaches the doorway or owner, he barks. He allows you to bathe him. Niko does not like to be pet on the head too much, owner stated he can become unpredictable if you pet him on the head. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Niko is best described as friendly, affectionate and playful. He has a medium activity level as he is a senior dog. When home, he follows you around. He plays with balls and squeaky toys. Niko has been kept mostly indoors. Niko sleeps wherever he wants. He is fed Pedigree dry dog food twice a day. He is house trained and prefers to go potty on dirt or grass. He listens to the command parlay, meaning sit, come and stay. When left alone he is well behaved. When off leash, he roams and comes back when you call him, when on leash, he pulls a little. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE Niko was curious about his surrounding’s and sniffed at the air.

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Niko was difficult to remove from his kennel showing teeth, growling and grabbing at the leash. Once he was removed from his kennel he was very fearful and did not show social behavior. He lowered his body, tail tucked, wrinkles his muzzle to expose his front teeth. Niko was grabbing at the leash and was a bit difficult to handle. Due to the behavior demonstrated in the shelter the behavior department believes that Niko is not an appropriate candidate for SAFER. Niko was surrender to us. Niko previous owner described him as friendly, affectionate and playful. He has a medium activity level. Around strangers, Niko is shy and has to warm up to you. He plays gentle with adults. He did not live with children, but according to his owner, he is friendly with kids. Niko lived with a small dog and a cat. He plays gentle with dogs. Niko is not bothered if you touch his food bowl, or water bowl”. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home.
