02/11/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Nicki previously lived with adults and has been around children. The owner stated Nicki is relaxed around children and adults. The owner describes Nicki as friendly and affectionate. The owner reports Nicki is house trained with a medium activity level. At intake it was reported Nicki growled at staff when owner was present, she allowed handling with assistance from the owner. She did become more relaxed once the owner left. During SAFER Nicki came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, she was friendly and social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Nicki joins the game during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Nicki was easy to handle when engaged with the item. During dog to dog interaction Nicki greeted the helper dog with a stiff body and hard stare. We introduced the dog’s first on-leash when the pen was opened because Nicki’s body language was inconclusive. She remained stiff, and practically motionless but not frozen. When the helper dog approached she did allow him to sniff her but did not reciprocate and when the helper dog moved around to her rear end again, she head whipped in his direction. Due to some concerns with Nicki being uncomfortable around other dogs, the behavior department feels she can be suitable for an experience adopter and we recommend the only dog in the household. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog smells, then turns away. Dog-dog: Nicki greeted the helper dog with a stiff body and hard stare. We introduced the dogs first on-leash when the pen was opened because Nicki’s body language was inconclusive. She remained stiff, and practically motionless but not frozen. When the helper dog approached she did allow him to sniff her but did not reciprocate and when the helper dog moved around to her rear end again, she head whipped in his direction.

02/09/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
The Behavior Department did not feel comfortable removing Nicki from her kennel. She was cowering in the corner and baring her teeth. She will be given a day to acclimate and we will try again tomorrow. 2/10 update: Nicki greeted the helper dog with a stiff body and hard stare.
