Nene
Hello, my name is Nene. My animal id is #18952. I am a desexed male tan dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 10 years 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 22-Jan-2018, with the surrender reason stated as animal behaviour – aggressive towards people.
Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.
Nene is at risk for behavior reasons. Nene came to the Care Center with a reported bite history. For this reason, we are seeking placement only with a New Hope partner who can better assess Nene’s nature and requirements before placing her with an adopter. Medically, we have no concerns for Nene, who presents as a healthy geriatric dog.

He jumped in circles when he saw new people and smelled other staff members and allowed them to pet him. He had a wagging tail and wiggly body. He play bowed and jumped up for attention. He allowed me to pick him up and was relaxed while in my arms. He smelled my face and allowed me to touch his ears, paws and belly.

Potential challenges: : Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,Multiple-bite history/risk of future aggression
Potential challenges comments:: Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Nene is fearful in the care center and has growled and snapped. He has bitten in his previous home. It is important to always go slow and give Nene the option to walk away from any social interaction. Nene should never be forced to approach anything that he is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Nene’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Nene would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to his new surroundings.
