A volunteer writes: I fell so hard for this pretty little girl that I looked up the origin of her name. In Spanish, Nena, (pronounced Nay-nah) is a term of endearment like calling someone sweetheart in English. I don’t know if that was the original intent but I’m going with that because Nena is definitely a sweetheart!! Surrendered to our care due to NYCHA restrictions, we’re told that Nena lived with young children, plays gently with all, doesn’t guard her things, loves to play with toys, is housetrained and used to being walked 3x per day, is well behaved when left home alone, and is even OK getting a bath! Nena showed me how well she walks on leash going, went potty as soon as we were out the door, and off leash comes when called, loved playing with a toy, and then joined me on the bench for snuggles and a belly rub! She’s a beautiful little girl, shy at first but warming up quickly sitting for a treat and taking it gently. I left Nena in the pen for a few minutes to get her kennel ready and when I came back she was waiting quietly and so happy to see me. Nena has the most wonderful soft, gentle personality and is looking to begin her happily ever after with cuddles, belly rubs, toys and lots of love. It’s easy – come meet her today!

Nena pulls a bit on leash. She was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, wagging tail. She was calm and relaxed during handling. Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
7/5: When off leash with other dogs, Nena bows and bounces, engaging in play. She offers correction for mounting. The behavior department feels that due to limited interactions and observation, Nena should have a pre-adoption interaction and time to decompress in a new environment before immediate introductions to other dogs.
