03/25/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Nena previously lived with 2 adults and has been around children ages 5, 7, 11, 13 and 16 years old. The owner stated Nena is relaxed, and plays exuberantly with them. The owner describes Nena as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, and excitable. The owner mentioned Nena is house trained, has a high activity level and well behaved when home alone in the yard. At intake it was reported Nena was calm but barked when she heard other dogs, she allowed all handling. During SAFER Nena came into the assessment room anxious and panting, she was a bit social towards the assessor with a slow approach. Not all handling items were able to be conducted as Nena becomes tense and freeze at the assessor on the Look item. She displayed no interest in the toy item during this portion of the assessment. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a new hope partner who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Look: 5. Dog becomes stiff and freezes. Toy: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: Nena entered the pen and approached the gate with a tense body and her posture high and forward. Due to this behavior we attempted to muzzle her however she froze and growled while being handled so we were unable to introduce her to the helper dog safely.
