01/02/2014 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Nena is quite anxious in her kennel, and when I leashed her I noticed that she has a manicure with pink nail polish! Pink is perfect for a beautiful gray dog. Surrendered by her family due to personal problems, she lived with 2 adults and 5 children under 10 years old, is housetrained, paper trained, lived happily with other dogs, is friendly to all, knows ‘sit’, ‘stay’ and ‘come’. Nena is a petite little girl with a dainty walk and sweet expression. She makes wonderful eye contact as we take some photos, sits when I ask her to and takes treats gently. Her leash manners are pretty good, and any pulling right now is due to some anxiety in her changed circumstances. She eliminates along the way, confirming, as her former owner told us, that she is housetrained. Off leash in the back yard she trots along daintily exploring her new surroundings. As we were cleaning up in the back, organizing and putting away some donations, she curiously investigated everything ‘helping’ us in our tasks. She’s an adorable little peanut, sweet and social, giving a little woof from time to time to remind us that she was there. As if we needed reminding! Nena is hoping that her new family discovers her quickly. She’s looking for a family who can provide some quality exercise, and lots of love. She’ll take care of the rest! Ask to meet her today.
07/29/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Nena pulls a bit on leash. She was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, wagging tail. She was calm and relaxed during handling. Nena did a lot of jumping up, body checking and played tug-of-war with the leash during tag interaction. She took the toy with a soft body language. She rushed in quickly during the dog-dog test, but showed no aggression. Nena was surrender to us. According to her previous owner Nena is friendly around strangers, but sometimes barks at them. She plays somewhat rough with adults. She lived with 5 kids ages, 6-13 and she was usually respectful and playful with them, but at times played a little rough. Nena likes small dogs and cats. She plays gentle with other dogs. She lived with a cat and she was respectful of the cat. Nena allows you to take away her food bowl, water bowl, or toy away. Nena show a bit of concern during the tag interaction portion of the assessment as she became a bit over aroused. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions.
