01/25/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: It was a dark and stormy night when I first met Mr. Nelson, but he’s such a sunny guy that we soon forgot about the rain and just went on enjoying our date and sharing some treats while meeting other soggy doggies out for a stroll. Nelson’s a strong guy, but he’s a gentleman at heart and walks well on leash, seems to be house trained, and loves to explore and sniff sniff sniff everything in sight. Someone cared for him and it shows; he’s so calm in his den, so friendly outside, his coat is stunning and he’s the perfect weight, too. Already familiar with commands for ‘come’ and ‘sit’, Nelson loves treats, and sits to take them softly, and he knows how to meet other dogs with the kind of easy, tail-wagging manners that would make him a welcome guest at any gathering. Don’t let his serious ‘posing face’ fool you, Nelson truly is a fun and friendly dude who wants nothing more than what he’s always had: the comfort of a real home and a family of his own to love. Will you be the lucky one who discovers this hidden treasure at our Manhattan Care Center?

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 1/20/17 During his initial medical exam, Nelson allowed all handling. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Nelson so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. Nelson is a young, enthusiastic, social dog. He will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in addition to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)
01/21/2017 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION

Nelson has had limited observation interaction with other dogs in the care center, and has only displayed intent to mount female dogs. Nelson is currently unaltered and may require a period of decompression outside the care center- it can not be said for certain if mounting behavior will extinguish after being altered. Introductions made to other dogs should be done slowly, and on a one on one basis. 1/21: When off leash with a female dog Nelson exhibits sexually motivated behaivors but does not attempt to mount. 1/22: Nelson approaches and intensely sniffs the rear of a female dog. 2/1: Nelson greets politely, then wanders.
