07/17/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Introducing the wiggliest guy around…none other than Nelly!! He has adorable forehead wrinkles, is always dressed for black and white occasions, and is so animated and expressive he could be a cartoon. For whatever reason he does a funny cautious walk down the hallways (it’s pretty endearing) but is so happy to go out for walks and have company! He has the BEST wiggle and it’s quickly activated when I talk to him, just look at him, or when we encounter staff members to say “hi” to. He seems to have a typical adolescent energy level, but loves to play with toys and doesn’t guard them — perfect for burning it off! He isn’t bad on leash, seems housebroken, and is very treat motivated (he knows “sit” but is working on responding consistently). On one outing in the yard he seemed a little confused by the tent flapping in the wind, but quickly realized it was an opportunity to try and play with the shadows it was casting! He can be a little jumpy and will need his manners polished up, but is so loving and affectionate it’s impossible not to forgive his occasional exuberance! He is just so happy when he’s around people and would be overjoyed if you came to visit him…he’s waiting at Brooklyn ACC!
07/12/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Nelly came into the shelter as a stray, so there is no owner information at this time. Upon intake was reported Nelly was loose and friendly. Nelly came into the assessment room calm and friendly. During SAFER Nelly had a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor, he allowed all handling item to be conducted without issue. Nelly was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment. Nelly was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Nelly appears to be sociable, and did not display any behavior concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Squeeze 1: 1 Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:1 Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. When off leash with other dogs, Nelly enters the pen with very high energy and attempts to mount the helper dog.
