05/01/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Nehamiah came into our center after a member of the public found him as a stray so behaviors in the home are unknown. He was friendly and allowed all handling upon intake. Nehamiah was quiet upon entering SAFER assessment room, dropped body low when approached for collaring. He allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, trembling, lip lick. Nehamiah stood still during Sensitivity item, lip lick, body trembling. He followed at the end of the leash during Tag game, body low at second pass. Nehamiah did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts, body low. He showed no interest in Toy. Nehamiah approached the helper dog with tail above spine level, not stiff. The Behavior Team feels Nehamiah would do best with an Experienced adopter. He may benefit from a slow approach/slow introduction, as well as going home initially to a calm, quiet, structured space so he can relax and know what to expect in his new home. He will also benefit from regularly scheduled professional grooming appointments, approximately every 10-12 weeks, to keep him tangle free and comfortable. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted, body trembling, lip lick, his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body trembling, lip lick, ears neutral Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low on second pass Squeeze 1: 2. Dog does not pull back, body low. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches the helper dog, body soft, tail well above spine level, not stiff.
