I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 08/21/2016 from NY 10301, owner surrender reason stated was PET HEALTH.

08/21/16 17:56 Basic Information: Nata is a 10 year old female Pekingese Mix that has issues with her teeth and jaw. Also Nata has skin issues due to allergies. Owner has had Nata for 10 years but can longer take care of her due to her health condition. Owner received Nata from a breeder in Ecuador. Socialization: According to the owner, around strangers, Nata is shy and barks. Around adults and children, Nata is respectful and relaxed. Nata plays in a gentle manner. Nata has interacted with various dogs and cats got along with all. She has never bitten a person or another animal. Behavior: Previous owners stated that Nata doesn’t have any behavioral issues. Nata isn’t bothered when having her coat brushed and isn’t bothered by baths. Owner did not trim Nata’s nails so her behavior is unknown. Nata barks when an unfamiliar person approaches the home, yard, owner, or a family member. For a New Family to Know: Nata is described as, affectionate, mellow, and confident with a low activity level. When in the home, Nata is the type to follow you around seeking attention. Nata was kept mostly indoors and was fed wet dog food. According to owner, Nata is mostly house-trained and has accidents a few times a month. Nata usually goes to the bathroom on the grass. When left alone in the home or in the yard, Nata is well-behaved. For exercise, would walk around in the yard.

08/24/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE

Nata came into our center as an owner surrender citing Nata’s declining health. Previous owners stated that Nata doesn’t have any behavioral issues. According to owner, Nata is mostly house-trained and has accidents a few times a month. Nata usually goes to the bathroom on the grass. When left alone in the home or in the yard, Nata is well-behaved. Nata allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, relaxed. She stood still during Sensitivity item, body soft. Nata did not follow on leash during Tag game, though this may be due to medical issues. She did not pull her paw back on both Squeeze attempts. Nata showed minimal interest in Toy, perking up at the sound of squeak but did not engage in play. She did not approach the helper dog. Nata would do best with an Experienced adopter who can monitor her health concerns closely. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor Squeeze 1/ 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed Toy 1. Minimal interest. Dog – dog 2. Dog does not approach the helper dog.
