Basic Information
Naomi is a 5 year old spayed Afghan hound who is being surrendered because owner cannot afford to take care of her any longer and he is moving to Chicago. Owner got Naomi from a breeder 5 years ago. Owner stated Naomi has no medical issues and last saw a vet 11/23/2014.
Socialization
Naomi is friendly around strangers. She has spent time with kids of all ages. She is playful, respectful, and tolerant with the kids. She plays in a gentle manner with kids and adults. She has spent time with small and large dogs. She is playful, respectful, and tolerant of the dogs. She plays in an exuberant manner with the dogs. She has never been around cats. She has never bitten a person or animal.
Behavior
Owner stated she has no behavior issues. He did state if you leave food unattended she will get it and she goes through garbage if left accessible to her. She is not bothered by loud or sudden noises. Naomi is not bothered if her food is taken away while she is eating, she is not bothered if any kind of treat or toy is taken away, if pushed off furniture, if held, if bathed, or if someone unfamiliar approaches the owner or family member. She likes being brushed. She barks if someone knocks on the door. Owner has never trimmed her nails.
For a New Family to Know
Naomi is described as friendly, affectionate, and aloof with a medium activity level. Owner stated Naomi will hit your leg with her paws when she wants to be walked. She will follow her owner around when home. She likes to play with balls and chewable style toys. She likes to play fetch. She is kept mostly indoors and sleeps anywhere in the apartment. She was fed dry dog food from Pet Smart, owner stated he forgot the brand but is a no grain dry dog food. He feeds her 2 cups once a day. She is house-trained and does potty on grass. She is well behaved when left home alone and in the yard. She has never been crated and knows commands like sit, stay, and lay down. For exercise owner takes her running on the leash. She pulls lightly on a leash. Owner never walks her off the leash.
Behavior during Intake
Naomi tolerated all handling during intake. She gave the staff kisses and sat on command for her photo. She did not show any signs of aggression during intake.
