08/03/17 18:29 BASIC INFO Nana is a 2 year old spayed brown brindle mix. Her owner was not able to handle her medical needs and is unable to keep her. She last visited a vet 3 months ago. SOCIALIZATION Nana lived with 2 children ages 2 and 9. She’s relaxed, playful, and tolerant with them. When she plays with the children she is gentle and allows them to pull her tail and play rough with her. She plays exuberantly with people. Around other dogs she lunges barks and bares teeth. She reacts similarly to cats. She’s never bit a person or animal before. BEHAVIOR Nana is house trained to go outside and is nervous during storms. She does not destroy any household items. She doesn’t mind when someone takes her food/treat/toy, moves her off furniture, holds/restrains her, wakes her up, or bathes her. She’s friendly with strangers who approach her home/family. She does not bark when the door is knocked on or the bell is rung. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Nana’s family describes her as friendly, affectionate, playful, excitable, and high energy. She has a medium level of energy at home. She follows her family and gives hugs and kisses. She likes balls and plays chase. She lived inside and slept on a dog bed. She ate dry pedigree food 3x/day. She’s housetrained, doesn’t have accidents, and potties anywhere outside. She’s well-behaved while home alone. She knows sit, come, stay and down. She goes for brisk walks and pulls on her leash hard and is not walked off leash.. INTAKE Nana had a super loose, wiggly body and fast wagging tail while I pet, scanned (+), collared, and positioned her for pictures. She often stood up, leaned into us, and licked us while we pet and talked to her. She took treats gently. She was high energy and was hard to focus during her photograph but allowed all handling for colalring and scanning.

A volunteer writes: Ask Nana what time it is and she’ll tell you it’s Belly Rub O’clock! This sweet pup LOVES belly rubs, loves to flirt with people, and has been dubbed the Belly Rub Queen of 110th St.! It’s a well earned title, as what does she do when she meets new people? You guessed it, she flops over for a belly rub! Nana was adopted from us as an 8 mos. old pup, and recently surrendered due to her ongoing skin issues which require care. Her outstanding family dog resume includes having lived with two young children with whom she was relaxed and tolerant even when they pulled her tail, is not fond of cats, is housetrained (check), gets nervous during storms, doesn’t guard her things, is well behaved when home alone, likes to play ball and chase, and slept on her own bed. Walking beautifully on leash, we stopped to say hello to another volunteer, Nana greeting him happily with a tail wag and then inviting a belly rub. She’s so cute! Outside in a pen she flirts with more staff, all the while keeping any eye on everything going on around her. She’s not called Nana for nothing! She has an impish, mischievous and loving face as she smiles and wags her tail at all the activity. Nana definitely needs vet care for her coat, some of which could be poor nutrition and/or allergies which weren’t cared for. Her amazing, friendly and affectionate personality is a joy and someone is going to be so lucky to have her by their side. Shouldn’t it be you?

Over time, Nana displayed less overarousal and has engaged in more running play with other dogs. During her most recent stay, she has been polite when greeting and displays brief play interest. The behavior department recommends Nana be given time to acclimate into a new home environment, and have slow, positive introductions with any resident dogs. INTAKE BEHAVIOR Upon intake, Nana had a loose body and was active and social.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 8/3/17 During her initial medical exam, Nana was active and allowed all handling. ENERGY LEVEL: Nana’s previous owner described her as a having a high level of activity. She is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) Potential challenges: _X_On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration: At the care center Nana has been observed to react to other dogs on leash, lunging towards them and barking. Her owner also reported this behavior in the home. As Nana plays well with other dogs, this reaction is likely due to excitement and frustration, we recommend a front clip harness or head halter to help manage this behavior. She will need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach her to look at you rather than other dogs.

A volunteer writes: Nana is a youngster so maybe her family named her Nana as she was the caretaker to the three young children with whom she lived? Surrendered because her family lost their home, Nana,of course, lost everything as well. She lived with 3 children ages 4-18 and was relaxed, playful and tolerant with them. She’s friendly to strangers, plays exuberantly with adults, doesn’t guard her “stuff”, loves to play, is housetrained (check) and is well behaved when left home alone. Nana is Gorgeous with a capital G, her coat is shiny and nicely taken care of, and her coloring is like the finest woven tapestry – simply stunning. Alert and playful, she loved playing with a toy, showed off her sit (with a little coaxing), took her treat gently and seems to LOVE other dogs. When we first went outside she play bowed to a dog across the street!!! Rolling in for some kisses and hugs she softly wags her tail so happy for the contact. In her first group play she solicited play with a bow and romps in chase play with the helper dog. Adorable, playful, petite, smart and loving, Nana is looking for a new family to take care of. A proven family dog, she’s hoping you’ll stop by to meet her today.
Another volunteer writes: As part of ACC’s corporate program involving young corporate employees meeting ACC dogs, giving them a chance to photograph, interact with and write bios for some dogs, dogs are selected based on their ability to mingle with and be handled by many people at one time. Nana , is one dog who enjoys attention, loves to be pet by many hands and happily interacts with all. It’s an important job at ACC and rockstar Nana is up for it!!
