07/29/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
07/29/17 12:54 Basic: Nala is a 9 year old large breed spayed dog that the owner has had since she was 3 months old. Nala was last at the vet about 3-4 years ago when she went to get spayed. Nala does have a hematoma of her left ear and some skin irritation but the owners have been self treating the issues. Socialization: Around strangers, Nala is described as extremely friendly and outgoing. Nala has lived with children ranging from newborns to 6 year olds and she is very relaxed around them. Nala plays very gently with children and adults. Nala has never lived or interacted with other dogs. Nala has never lived with cats but when stray cats pass by her yard, she tries to chase them and attack. Nala has never bitten or scratched another animal or a person. Behavior: During fireworks, Nala is not bothered. Nala is not bothered when her food bowl is touched while she is eating, when a bone is taken away from her, when toys are taken from her, when she is pushed off furniture, or when she is restrained for any given reason. Nala is okay with taking a bath and absolutely loves being brushed. When someone unfamiliar rings the doorbell, Nala barks and growls. When someone unfamiliar approaches the owner while Nala is there, she is not bothered. For a New Family to Know: Nala is described as very friendly and playful. Nala has a low level of activity and spends the time she is not playing, sleeping. The owner’s favorite thing about Nala is how independent and smart she is. Nala’s favorite thing to do is to run around in the yard. When the owner is at home, Nala likes to greet them but then stay in her favorite spot. Nala likes to play with balls. Nala has a free choice of being in or out, she uses the back door to stay in the yard and then when she comes in the house, she has her own room to stay in. Nala is free fed Pedigree dry food. Nala’s favorite treats are milk bones and beggin strips. Nala is extremely house trained and she uses the grass and cement when she goes out. When Nala is left alone in the house or yard, she is very well behaved. Nala knows how to sit, come, stay, go down, give paw, and get it. For exercise, Nala plays in the yard. Nala pulls very hard on a leash and stays close by when taken off leash. Upon intake, Nala allowed being collared, leashed, and having her picture taken. Nala was soliciting belly rubs and wagging her tail the entire time.
08/01/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: A popular girl–Ms. Nala has already got that title here. She is a sweet elderly dame who has been all that a good dog is to her family. Nala lived with many children of all ages and is known to be friendly and outgoing with all. She would be loving, playful, well mannered, knows a number of commands and is very house trained. Nala never mingled with other dogs and was not fond of the neighborhood cats. She is glad to spend time with anyone who shows interest in her and follows slowly like a little lamb, not forgetting to do her business on the way. She let me clean her eyes. She accepts a bow and some treats. Milk bones and bacon strips are her favorite. So I will make sure to bring those at my next visit. Her left ear affected by a chronic hematoma is very sensitive and many sores affects her feet. Nala, although owning her own bedroom, spent a lot of time in her yard. Nala, the lioness, is a lovely dog who so deserves to spend her golden years well cared for, respected and loved. If you like older pooches, Nala might be just the one gem you have been looking for. Come and meet her soon at the Manhattan Care Center. Another volunteer writes: Before morning activities, I walked into Nala’s section and heard a soft snoring and traced it to her. Sound asleep, her soft snore is a gentle, sweet sound. Once Nala knew I was there, she came forward to be leashed, stepped carefully down from her kennel and navigated the stairs like a champ. Outside, she pottied immediately, and then put her face up, eyes closed, just to feel the sun on her face. We stood there for minutes as she felt the therapeutic morning sun, and then we moved on. She’s a slow, easy walker, her tail wags, and when we stopped at a door stoop to get to know one another, she showered me with kisses and big smiles. Nothing will get this girl down and I am head over heels in love with her. Even at intake, she rolled over for belly rubs.
