02/15/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 2/1/17 Unaltered Female, Seized Bite history: Yes, bit her owner on the wrist, circumstances and severity of the bite were not given. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 2/12/17 Look: 1. Dog jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, closed mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Jumps on Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Toy: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is between you and the toy or rawhide. No growling or stiffness. Summary: Mystery displayed no behavioral concerns, she was social throughout. She displayed a high level of energy and movement. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 2/1/17 During her initial medical exam, Mystery was social and active. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Mystery so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. However, she is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. She displayed a high level of energy on her assessment, jumping moderately on the assessor in a manner that appeared to be attention seeking. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. IN-SHELTER OBSERVATIONS: Mystery is becoming increasingly reactive toward other dogs as she passes them in their kennels. She has since redirected this arousal, hard mouthing, tugging, and grabbing onto the rope leash and clothing of her handler. RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13): Due to Mystery’s bite history, we recommend an adult only. The circumstances and severity of the bite are unknown, so this is cautionary recommendation. She has shown restraint in the care center and has not demonstrated any warnings of aggression. _X_Basic manners/Poor impulse control (It is recommended that default behaviors such as “Leave it”, “Sit/Stay”, “Down” are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach her to control her impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward based training only is recommened.) _X_Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition _X_On leash/barrier reactive
