Mulberry

Hello, my name is Mulberry. My animal id is #10022. I am a desexed male black dog at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 1 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a stray on 17-Oct-2017.

Mulberry is at risk due to being diagnosed with Canine Upper Respiratory Disease Complex and will likely require home rest and a series of antibiotics for up to 14 days. This is a contagious illness to other dogs.

[DVM Intake] DVM Intake Exam: 1431 Estimated age: 2 years Microchip noted on Intake? no History : surrender Subjective: BAR, hydrated Observed Behavior – friendly, allows exam/treatments with minimal restraint. Evidence of Cruelty seen -no Evidence of Trauma seen -no Objective P = 120 R =wnl BCS: 5/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal or ocular discharge noted Oral Exam: negative oral exam PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: male intact MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat. Multiple small scabs/bites around neck/ears: healing CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment: Multiple small bites/scabs around neck and ears. Otherwise in good health Prognosis: good Plan: continue to monitor at ACC SURGERY: Okay for surgery

Pre-neuter exam: 1431 BAR, hydrated EENT: clear au/ou, no ocular or nasal discharge noted PLN: wnl H/L: nsf ABD: benign MSI: ambulatory x 4, in good flesh, good coat U/G: male intact Neuro: nsf A: in apparent good health P: ok for surgery SX: Pre-scrotal incision. Cords/vessels double ligated and transfixed with PDS. Incision closed in 3 layers with PDS. Green dermal tattoo placed. Recovery uneventful.

New URI noted on rounds. Neutered 10/26 Subjective: QAR. No c/s/v/d but has purulent nasal d/c. No scrotal hematoma noted. Objective EENT: purulent nasal d/c bilaterally, no ocular d/c ou H/L: eupneic U/G: MN, no scrotal hematoma noted Assessment: CIRDC Plan: Start doxycycline 10mg/kg PO SID x14d Recheck at day 5=7, 10 Move to iso (MACC) Prognosis: Good

Pre Medication Simbadol: Hydromorphone:1.4cc IV Local Anesthetic Blocks: Lidocaine: Anesthetic Induction Telazol:0.9cc IM Gas Maintenance: Isoflorane % : 2 NSAID Robenicoxib (Onsior) Carprofen 2.1cc SQ Other Pain Meds Rimadyl 100mg 1 tab SID x 3 days post op.

Mulberry was brought in with another dog 10025-Kola. Both dogs had high energy levels during the admissions process. They would whine and pull to be near each other. They maintained very loose bodes, wagging tails, and jumped on people that approached them.

Basic Information:: Mulberry is a large mix breed that was found as a stray Oct. 17.

How is this dog around strangers?: Mulberry would approach staff members in the care center with a loose body. The finders states that Mulberry had a soft body and approached them with what appeared to them a friendly behavior.

How is this dog around children?: This information is not available at this time.

How is this dog around other dogs?: Mulberry was found with another dog and they would whine when they were walked separated and relaxed when sitting next to each other.

How is this dog around cats?: This information is not available at this time.

Other Notes:: Mulberry jumped in his finders car after the dog e was found with was placed in the car.

Medical Notes: Kola did not appear to have any injuries or illnesses.

Other Notes:: Mulberry was found with another large dog.

Date of assessment:: 10/24/2017

Look:: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. Allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds.

Sensitivity:: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, eyes are averted, and tail is in neutral position with a relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.

Tag:: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog might jump on Assessor once play begins.

Paw squeeze 1:: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Eyes are averted and ears are relaxed or back.

Paw squeeze 2:: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Eyes are averted and ears are relaxed or back.

Toy:: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you.

Summary:: During the handling assessment Mulberry was friendly, and social towards the assessor. Showing affection by licking, and attention seeking.

Summary (1):: Mulberry engages in play a variety of dogs, and displayed tolerance for most inappropriate behaviors. He is sexually motivated, and attempts to mount the female dogs, but listens their corrections and handler interruptions. Mulberry was found as a stray with another dog. The Behavior Department recommends that Mulberry be placed in a home with resident dogs that are well socialized and matches his gentle play style. 10/23: When off leash at the Care Center, Mulberry engages in high energy, rough, rowdy play. He uses body slams and spins but does take breaks and will slow down when interrupted. 10/24: Mulberry engaged in gentle play, with bounces and running chase play.Between bouts of play he attempts to mount the female dog, but cease when she offers him a correction. He explores the pens the rest of his session. 10/25-26: Mulberry was able to engage in play with a group of anxious dogs. He tolerates their grumbles, paw slaps and mounting- and attempts to mount between bouts of play.
