DVM Intake Exam : Estimated age: 3 years  Microchip noted on Intake? positive, 981020025322609  History : o/s return  1/3-original DVM intake  1/10-neutered
1/16-post adopt CIRDC, given doxycycline, LRS, and cerenia  2/28-returned  3/6-started on trazodone  Subjective: BAR. No csvd. No signs CIRDC. Anxious in cage but seems calmer in room 9 in big run.  Objective : EENT: Eyes clear, no nasal discharge noted  H/L: eupneic, normal RR/RE  MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat  CNS: mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities  Assessment:  apparently healthy  Plan: Continue to monitor while at BACC

Details on my behavior are…

Basic Information:: General is a 3 year old altered male brown and white medium mixed breed dog. He was returned due him having biting and destruction problems.

Previously lived with:: 2 adult 3kids

How is this dog around strangers?: Around certain strangers General is friendly and outgoing. He loves being rubbed and pet. He can be aggressive at times towards strangers.

How is this dog around children?: General has been around children of various ages and is aggressive when playing and does not like when being held by children

How is this dog around other dogs?: When General sees another dog he gets too excited pulls hard on leash and barks. He also plays very rough and can sometimes get nippy.

How is this dog around cats?: General has barked when seeing cats and will luge and be aggressive.

Resource guarding:: General isn’t bothered when someone tries touch his food bowl, treats or toys.

Bite history:: General has multiple bite history records and many have been punctures along with scratches.

Housetrained:: Yes

Energy level/descriptors:: very high activity level

Has this dog ever had any medical issues?: No

For a New Family to Know: General was described as playful, affectionate, and friendly. He likes to follow the family around the home and loves to play with balls and stuffed toys. He is feed dry food known as taste of the wild. He is not house-trained would not use the grass or cement, he would make daily accidents inside the home. General is crate trained and stay in the crate at night or when the family leaves the home if he is left out alone he will chew on the furniture. General knows commands sit, gives paw and down. He goes on brisk walks on leash with a harness because he will pull hard. General also struggles with taking a bath and having his nails trimmed. He will bark at you and try to bite.

Means of surrender (length of time in previous home):: Owner surrender (in previous home for about 5 months)

Previously lived with:: 2 adults, 3 children

Behavior toward strangers:: Friendly, outgoing, can be selective

Behavior toward children:: Plays roughly, does not like being handled by children

Behavior toward dogs:: Plays roughly, can be nippy

Behavior toward cats:: Lunges toward cats

Resource guarding:: None reported

Bite history:: Yes, General has multiple reported bite incidents.

During one, the owner and 5-year-old daughter were bitten. The child was playing and put her arms around General, who snapped and bit her hand. The owner moved to separate them and General bit her on the hand as well. Both bites broke skin and were treated at home.

One month prior, General bit the owner’s son. The two sons were playing together and General lunged at them, snapping and biting one on the shoulder. The bite left red marks and scratches and was treated at home. His owner reported that General continued pursuing the child until the she pulled him off by the collar.

Snapped when attempted to give vaccine and muzzle. Had to use rope muzzle for vaccine. Objective ; P = wnl ; R = eupneic ; BCS 4/9; EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal discharge noted; Oral Exam: adult dentition, no oral lesions noted; PLN: No enlargements noted; H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupneic; ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated; U/G: MN; MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat; CNS: mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities; Assessment: Apparently healthy; Plan: Continue to monitor while at BACC; Prognosis: Excellent; SURGERY: neutered

3 Years Old, Large Tricolor Mix, Male, 49lbs 12.8oz, Stray 01/02/18

01/03/18:  DVM Intake Exam; Estimated age: ~3 years; Microchip noted on Intake? negative; History : stray ; Subjective: BARH; Observed Behavior – very sweet. Easily handleable. Did well for all medical handling and procedures; Objective ; P = wnl ; R = eupneic ; BCS 4/9; EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal discharge noted; Oral Exam: adult dentition with mild dental tartar, no oral lesions noted; PLN: No enlargements noted; H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupneic; ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated; U/G: MI, 2 testicles descended; MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat; CNS: mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities; Assessment: Apparently healthy; Plan: Continue to monitor while at BACC; Prognosis: Excellent; SURGERY: ok to schedule for surgery

Details on my behavior are…

Summary:   Mufasa was relaxed during he assessment.
He was soft, and allowed handler to complete assessment. Mufasa showed no concerning behavior.

Summary (1):  Mufasa was surrender as a stray so his past behavior with other dogs is unknown.
01/3: When off leash at the Care Center, Mufasa engages in sexually motivated behaviors-genital sniffing and licking- and is persistent even after handlers interrupt. He takes breaks and explores the pens when the female greeter avoids him. Towards the end of his session, Mufasa engages in running chase play.

Summary:  Highly social, sought attention.

Date of initial:  3-Jan-2018
Summary:  Social, easy to handle.

ENERGY LEVEL:  We have no history on Mufasa so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment.
Mufasa displayed medium energy and movement throughout assessment, and will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:  AVERAGE (suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)
