09/11/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: When I first encountered Mr. Midnight he was curled up on his cot and loudly snoring. He eventually woke from his slumber as I was in and out of his room and solicited my attention with soft eye contact and a tail wag. He seems very housebroken, so it’s a good thing he knows how to turn on the charm from his cage! He has been very easy to handle on our walks and although he does do a lot of sniffing (still mapping out this strange place!), he’s been very sweet with me. He loves treats and takes them nicely (but might not have picked up many tricks in all his years!). He likes to be pet, does the limbo when I hit an itchy spot on his back, and gently nuzzles into my lap when I sit down. His face is sort of caved in in a distinguished older man way, he is chubby, and he has the best spotted tongue…so cute! We’re told he is relaxed and friendly with strangers, can be very talkative, and has lived harmoniously with cats and dogs…what a good boy! Mr. Midnight is ready and willing to hyphenate his name…he’s at Brooklyn ACC waiting for someone to take him under their wings!
09/09/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Mr. Midnight previously lived with two adults and has spent time with children ages 9 and up. The owner stated Mr. Midnight is friendly towards strangers, adults and children. The owner mentioned Mr. Midnight is tolerant and playful towards the children. It was reported by the owner Mr. Midnight lived with cats and dogs and is described as tolerant towards them. According to the owner Mr. Midnight is house trained and has a low activity level. At intake it was reported Mr. Midnight was relaxed with his tail wagging, he allowed all handling. During SAFER Mr. Midnight came into the assessment room anxious and panting, he was a bit social towards the assessor but more focused at the door. Not all handling items were able to be conducted as Mr. Midnight bared his teeth at the assessor when attempting to touch his back. He displayed no interest in the toy resource item during this portion of the assessment. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-dog: While off leash at the Care Center, Me. Midnight was anxious and nervous. He was very sensitive to the initial greeting and lip-curled at the female greeter dog. He spent most of the time wandering but eventually approached the female greeter with an appropriate introduction.
