07/02/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Mr. G was my favorite weatherman for years, so it comes as no surprise (to me) that Mr. G was a ‘must meet’ dog! And am I glad I did! He’s an awesome young dog, lively, energetic, gorgeous, fun, affectionate and playful. He literally exploded out of his kennel and made a beeline for the door where the second we were outside he peed for so long I thought he’d topple over! Good boy, Mr. G! He pulled on the leash until he found the right place to poop, and then walked nicely to the park. Mr. G seems to like other dogs, play bowing to a Yorkie through the fence, happily wagging his tail at a larger dog through a gate and happy to greet anyone who wants to meet him. He’s an accomplished ball player, eyes sparkling in anticipation of the next throw and able to catch a ball on the fly. Are the Yankees or Mets looking for a new outfielder? Are you? When I stopped to talk to some people on the street Mr. G waited quietly and patiently by my side until I was done. Friendly, energetic and ready to find a new home team, Mr. G can get a tad puppy mouthy with no pressure when he plays and responds to a quick ‘no’. He’s a happy, terrific pup looking for a new person or family who’s ready to welcome a fun youngster into their home. While he can’t predict the weather, he can predict that you’ll have the best new family member ever!
07/01/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Mr G pulls a bit on the leash. He was excited, mouthy (light)but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up. He was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. Mr G played tug-of-war with the leash during tag interaction but his body was soft and easily to distract him. He took the toy with a soft body language. Mr G is an active dog he need a significant amount of exercise and mental stimulation. The behavior department feels that he can go to an experience home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog repeatedly turns toward the Assessor’s hand, with loose body and open mouth, mouths the hand, but does not apply pressure. Or, dog licks hands while lips are long. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position, joins the game and grab at the leash but was not difficult to distract. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog gently places his open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure. Squeeze 2: 2. Dog gently places his open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy.
07/01/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Mr G has displayed interest in engaging in play with females, and plays exuberanrly with them. At this time, Mr G has not been comfortable when interacting with male dogs. The behavior team feels that Mr G may do best placed with a playful female dog, and advises against placement with male dogs until his behavior an dcomfort with them can be followed up on outside the shelter. Mr G arrived as a stray, so it is unknown how his behavior around dogs will translate outside of a shelter setting. 7/1: When off leash with other dog Mr. G is a bit sexually motivated but will engage in play when solicited. 7/2 update: Mr. G engages in bouncy play with males and females. He becomes overwhelmed with the exuberance of the other male (he is much larger) and Mr. G then jumps on his back growling; he cease with handler correction. 7/3 update: Mr G engages in wrestling play with a female dog. 7/5 update: Mr G engages in play with intent to mount, however also does take correction. 7/6: Mr G roams and sniffs, and mostly keeps to himself today. He does not display interest in play. 7/8 update: Mr G engages in rough, bouncy play with an exuberant female. 7/9 update: Mr G engages in bouncy, running play with a group of females.
