06/07/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 6/5/17 Unaltered Male, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 6/7/17 Summary: Morrison is difficult to remove from the kennel, lunging and snapping at the leash. He appears to be uncomfortable or afraid of the slip lead. He has also allowed minimal handling from her caretakers. Out of concern for his stress levels and her response to restraint, we feel Morrison is not a good candidate for a handling assessment at this time. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: Summary INTAKE BEHAVIOR: 6/5/17 Upon intake, Morrison was growling and did not tolerate handling. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 6/5/17 During his initial medical exam, Morrison was tense and growled. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Morrison so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13): Due to how uncomfortable Morrison is currently with touch and novel stimuli, we feel that an adult-only home would be most beneficial at this time. _X_Place with a New Hope partner: Morison has not acclimated well to the kennel environment and has allowed only minimal handling since intake. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home. Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Morrison is very fearful at the care center and snaps and growls when attempts at handling him are made. Guidance from a professional trainer/behaviorist is recommended to assess behavior after decompression in a new home environment. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing or exposing Morrison to new and unfamiliar situations.
