01/10/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
Walks on leash and understands commands
01/21/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Gently resting in his kennel, Smokie carefully stands as I unlatch his door, allows me to leash him and takes his time stepping out. His eyes are cloudy with age and have probably thrown off some depth perception so stepping down required some thought. He did great going up and down the stairs to the back yard though- I’m so proud of him! We first head out front where his major priority is going potty which he did mightily; he’s been holding it for some time! He walks fabulously on leash, his back legs are a bit stiff perhaps from some arthritis but the longer we walked the more limber he became. Posing for some photos in the park, Smokey makes soft eye contact, takes a treat with gusto and we head back. He’s so gorgeous, with his salt and pepper face, deep rich brown coat and although he’s too thin now it’s easy to see how regal and majestic he was as a younger boy. And trust me, he’s no slouch now! In the yard he comes when called, tried to sit for me when I asked but his back limbs are too stiff for that, and he gave a deep throated sexy bark as other dogs passed our pen. He greets all size dogs the same, a wagging tail, and some barking. Smokey lay his head in my lap for petting, and gave me some kisses while he gently wagged his tail. He’s my new boyfriend but my love interest can only be temporary while yours can be forever. He’s looking for a new person or family to love, a soft bed, easy walks and a gentle happily ever after. Can we make that happen for this special boy? I hope so.
